Amazing Jelly fish ages backwards? :) Oh Turritopsis nutricula you so cray
Turritopsis nutricula is a species of jellyfish that is capable of aging backward—but unlike Benjamin Button, this process can theoretically go on indefinitely, rendering the jellyfish biologically immortal.
This is done through Cell Transdifferentiation, in which the jellyfish “transforms all of its existing cells into a younger state”. Muscle cells can become nerve cells or even sperm or eggs.
Marine biologists say the jellyfish numbers are rocketing because they need not die.
Dr Maria Miglietta of the Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute said: “We are looking at a worldwide silent invasion.”
