Scientists have grown human brain tissue using stem cells. The 3D tissue structures can be described as tiny brains that include parts of the cortex, hippocampus and retinas, but don’t have a cerebellum. The researchers detected neural activity using imaging techniques, but this doesn’t mean the brain tissue is conscious. The ‘mini-brains’ will help scientists better understand brain development and activity.
