No longer content with Europe’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC), physicists are now planning to build a VERY Large Hadron Collider (VLHC). At 100 kilometres around, the new accelerator ring will be almost four times the length of the LHC, and will run at seven times the energy. It’s hoped that a machine this size will pick up signs of supersymmetry, which explains why the mass of the Higgs boson is so large.
